EdCaN learning resources

Resources for improved cancer care.

The EdCaN project was funded by the Australian Government to formulate a nationally recognised framework and set of capabilities outlining the role of nurses working in cancer control. Working with the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and other Australian cancer care institutions, universities and professional associations, EdCaN developed a comprehensive suite of educational resources to support the framework.

icemedia worked closely with EdCaN to make the framework and supporting resources available to a national audience both online (via the Cancer Learning website) and offline (via CD-ROM or memory stick).

We created a striking visual identity for the materials, played an important role in editing the EdCaN content to make it easy to read onscreen, and enlisted Lewis Media to cast and film 11 case study videos.

Our developers created a Flash application that presents the resources in line with the framework, with supporting documents and tools and downloadable video clips. The case studies are a key feature of the application. Each case centres on the experience of a person with cancer and their family, and contains:

  • videos documenting each person's experience with cancer
  • evidence based educational content
  • learning activities students can respond to using the pop-up notepads.

The EdCaN team was inundated with requests for the suite of resources even before the official launch in June 2009. The resources are set to advance the knowledge of cancer nurses in Australia, leading to improved cancer care.
